SIMULATOR FOR TRAINING OIL PUMP STATION OPERATORS

Purpose

The operator simulator is intended for training oil pump station operators to use and control the technological equipment of the oil pump station in normal and emergency conditions. To do this they use the microprocessor-based and computer-controlled equipment automatics. The simulator is also intended to help them acquire skills to use the system-generated operations reports, trends, process condition datasheets, etc.

Components

The simulator consists of 1 workstation for the instructor and up to 50 workstations for trainees. The workstations are connected into the local area network.

In addition, this simulator can be used in combination with the dispatcher simulator which is installed either on a separate workstation or on any workstation or workstations which are included in the pump station operator simulator as component parts.

This simulator can also be used in combination with the leak detection system simulator which is installed either on a separate workstation or on any workstation or workstations which are included in the pump station operator simulator as component parts.

Description

Installed in the instructor's automated workstation is a mathematical model of two parallel oil pipeline sections, each having 3 different-type oil pump stations.

The whole simulating system complex allows to imitate:

  • operation of the equipment of the oil pump station and its linear section;
  • start and stop of fluid pumping operations;
  • place the pipeline in the technological operating conditions as required
  • parallel-serial pumping operations;
  • pressure regulation system operation;
  • evaluation of the effect the looping lines and the booster pumps have on the pipeline performance;
  • pipeline ruptures and calculation of oil leakage volume.

The instructor has the option of setting up:

  • non-standard situations,
  • all protection / safety systems for the equipment and station,
  • equipment failure,
  • emergency situations in any pipeline section:
    • closing line gate valves,
    • opening looping lines,
    • starting booster pump equipment,
    • imitating pipeline ruptures
  • imitation of the scraper/PIG/prover launcher station operations.

The emergency situation generator allows quick and easy adjustment of a successive sequence of emergency situations which occur at a preset time. This allows to create a real emergency situation. For instance, when voltage failure occurs on one of the power bus lines, then the equipment connected to that bus line is de-energized, or, for example, if fire occurs in the oil-sump, it results in invalid or unreliable parameter readings sent to the system by the analogue devices, etc.
